You asked Elizabeth Lennox and she answers!

When I first approached Elizabeth Lennox  and asked if she would be willing to answers questions submitted for her she didn’t hesitate to say yes.  She said it sounded like fun and was an open book.  Her enthusiasm and gung-ho attitude told me she had an adventurous soul just as many of her female characters are written.  I also found Ms. Lennox has a wicked sense of humor!  I had so much fun getting to know Ms. Lennox through our emails and can truly say she is a wonderful, funny, helpful and very kind person.

Thank you Elizabeth Lennox for taking the time to answers the great questions that were submitted.

These are the questions submitted and Elizabeth’s answers.  I hope you enjoy them!

Let me start off by saying I love your books! Especially your sheik books. Thank you for the opportunity to ask a question. I have two. 1. When will your next sheik book be out? 2. What is the most important lesson you’ve learned to date about writing?

  • My next sheik book will be part of the Montana Men series.  I know – where’s the connection with Montana and tall, dark, arrogant sheiks, right?  Well, Droon had to run away from his homeland – his aunts were trying to kill him so that their children could take over the country.  Droon ran away and discovered Samantha and Charlie DeBron’s ranch (Samantha and Charlie’s romance will be a free novella coming out in October).  Eventually, he must leave Montana and go back to reclaim his throne.  His story will be told in the series along with Vince, Joe, Halley and Fleur.
  • The most important lesson? Goodness, I don’t know about THE most important lesson.  There are so many things I’ve learned and some of the lessons have been hard to take.  I think the most important lesson was to avoid reading any reviews until I’ve finished (or at least started) writing another story.  I’ve received many good reviews (thank you!) but the negative reviews really get to me.  Sometimes they are pretty harsh and I could have become discouraged by some of them.   So I tell all new writers to avoid reading reviews until they are at least halfway through their next story.  Always keep writing – no matter what people say.

Carrie Marie

What is the hardest part of writing for you? What’s the easiest?

The hardest part of writing would definitely be the editing process.  Most people don’t realize that writing the story is only about twenty-five percent of the effort.  The next several weeks or months will be editing, polishing, re-editing, tweaking your story.  You’re never really “done” with a book.  There’s always another edit that can be done.

What is the easiest?  The beginnings!  Goodness, those beginnings are fun to write and just fly out of my fingers.  I love writing the beginnings – all the sexual tension, the intense awareness, the instant lust…it is so much fun!!

Shellie

How do you come up with all of your ideas for stories?

I get asked this question a lot.  In fact, it is always the second question people ask me.  And the answer is – I don’t know.  I always have a story in my mind.  It might not be a viable plot.  I might start it and realize it is stupid or unworkable.  But yes, I always have a story ready to go.  I can sit in a coffee shop, stare at the other customers and come up with a story about them.  Driving down the street?  Music on?  Story pops into my mind.  Love it!!

Ruth

Have you ever written a story that we haven’t read? Are there any that you have written that you don’t like?

Goodness yes!!  LOL – I have dozens, maybe even hundreds of stories that didn’t work out.  Or stories that I started and abandoned because a better idea came along and I just forgot about the previous one.  It is crazy – but yeah.  Lots and lots of stories.

And then there are the stories which I know are horrible.  The Montana Men was going to be a six book series – six siblings, six stories (plus the parents).  But Rico’s story just didn’t flow properly.  I’ve started writing his story about seven times, one of which is about thirty thousand words.  It isn’t good enough.  I will come back to it in a few months or years and work on it again – because I like the premise for the story – I just couldn’t make it work correctly.

My sister is an English professor and she said that’s one of the hardest lessons a writer has to learn – just let go of something that isn’t working.  Sometimes that means deleting thousands of words.  Yes, that is heartbreaking, but it has to happen.

I won’t release a story that isn’t good.  If I don’t like it, you ladies won’t see it.

Liz

Have you ever written any other genre besides Contemporary Romance? If not, would you want to? What genre would it be?

I have written some erotica and I have plans to write a romantic series with magical elements to it.  I don’t know when that will work itself out in my brain, but yes.  More is coming.  I also have some ideas about a series for young adults, telling the stories of pre-teens or teenagers, dealing with some of the issues they are facing.  Again, I don’t know how that will work itself out, but that is another possibility.

I’d also like to challenge myself to write romantic mysteries but contemporary romance is still my favorite.

Wynde B

Do you have a favorite time of the year to write? If so, why?

Interesting question – I’ve never thought about that.  But now that you’ve brought it up, the fall.  If you have ever been to Washington, D.C. in the summer, you know that the heat and humidity here is oppressive!  It bogs one down like a thick, wet blanket (filled with mosquitoes!).  So summers are hard for me – I struggle to write, to meet my deadlines.

But when September rolls around this area, the humidity lessons, the heat seems to cool down and the world is a different place.  I seem to com back to life in the fall.  My mind is freed up, my body feels better and the stories just fly through my mind.  I can sit outside (as long as the spiders stay away) and enjoy the sunshine while I write and life is good!

Sally

I love the way you always create your heroines with a strong sense of self. Even if they have…issues. What is your motivation behind this? IF there is one

LOL – I think that we all have “…issues”.  I definitely do!  Just ask my husband or family!

But all the women in my stories – and the men – have issues that they need to resolve in order to make way for love.  The women are all strong, all have good careers and challenge the world.  Or at least, that’s my intent.  Why?  Because women are strong.  Women all have issues, but we step up and get done what needs to get done.  Period.  We don’t mess around, we don’t wait for someone else to fix our problems.  We just…get it done – whatever “it” is.

My books reflect the power that all of us have inside of us.  Yeah, we might not like the issues we have to deal with.  And there are many times my characters just want to grab a bag of chips and sit on the couch to avoid the world.  Don’t we all?

But in the end, they face up to their issues and get them resolved.  So do you, right?

Miranda

I can’t wait for your Bold Alaskan Men Series. Have you ever been to Alaska? Is this what motivated this series?

Yes!  I went to Alaska twice – in 2015 and 2014.  I loved that state!  It was incredible!  So the whole series is based off of both those visits.  The oceans, the whales, the crazy things that Alaskans do – like bore tide surfing, skiing down impossible mountain sides, living in a world that goes dark for all but a couple of hours during the winter…!  (Apparently, it is harder to get used to the endless light in the summer months – who knew?!)

Loved Alaska!  And in addition – my family and I flew into Seattle in order to get to Alaska – so there’s a series based in that city as well!  Oh – I love the northwest area!  So completely different from Washington, D.C.!  And cooler!  (except when I’m there – I tend to bring heat wherever I go!)

Katelyn

What books are YOU reading right now?

I just finished Aziz Ansari’s Modern Romance (and got a great idea for a plot out of that book!) and Malcom Gladwell’s “Outliers” – there will be a funny story about this one in a book too!  Over 4th of July weekend, I read Janet Evanovich’s “The Job” (great series, by the way) and I was honored to read (ahead of the release) Liz Scott’s “You Promised Me Forever” – awesome story!

Skye

Which writers inspire you? How?

This is going to sound crazy, but good and bad writers inspire me.

When I write a good story, I want to do it better.  I want to twist the plot around so it is more interesting or write better dialogue, better emotional connections.  I love good stories from fabulous authors because they challenge me, inspire me to write better, to set my standards higher.

But I also love bad stories because the writer might have an awesome plot, but she or he might completely fail to live up to the idea.  I want to do the idea better, to make the plot more complicated or more emotionally compelling.  I want to make the characters more real.

So good or bad, I’ll use that to emphasize my strengths or challenge my weaknesses.  I love a writer with good words or with a twist that really grabs me.

And readers – believe it or not – readers inspire me!  When I read the reviews from you ladies, that creates a lot of pressure to do it again, to write better, to replicate a good story.  I never take my readers for granted.  I know how easy it is for romance readers to find a new favorite.  I currently have 4.5 star ratings on almost all of my books and that’s a huge amount of pressure to maintain!  I won’t release any book I don’t think is good enough because I don’t want to lose that average rating.  It is incredibly important to me that my readers like the stories I put out there.

Barbara

Who does your sexy covers!

I do!  I search around for photos on the various photography sites until I find just the right picture.  Sometimes I’m sitting on my bed with my husband reading next to me, flipping through all of the buff guys and my husband just grunts occasionally.  He’s a sweet guy – and endures all of it!

It is almost bittersweet to read of the last sibling in the Samara Royal Family, Shantra del Abbas Samara.

Shantra has managed to keep a very big secret from her brothers and sister.  In return for keeping her secret she has had to portray herself as having her head in the clouds so that they never discover she is the mysterious designer behind the Jesek Designs clothing line.  Shantra is happy with her life as she designs clothing for women knowing she is helping them to look and feel beautiful.  But she is feeling the loss of her sister, Ciala who recently moved away due to her marriage.

Laithir del Hassam is not looking for marriage after the horrific mistake he made before, but when he sees Shantra he knows he will have her in his bed.  Shantra is enchanting, beautiful and nothing at all like his first wife.  Shantra is nervous and acting completely out of character when she is around Laithir.  After being with him for several functions, Shantra has determined that her brother Ramzi is trying to play matchmaker and quickly declares to that is not going to happen! She soon realizes that isn’t the case and her outburst sets into the motion that very thing.  Laithir declares they will be married in 6 months!

When they arrive in his country of Piora their relationship begins to change and Shantra is startled to hear that Laithir not only knows her secret but he will support her in continuing to do her designs.  As the newlyweds grow closer toward loving each other, Shantra is being tormented by Sheik Laithir’s first wife’s family.   As the onslaughts grow, Shantra tries to contain her anger but finally erupts in a fantastic display of righteous retaliation.  When she notices that her husband has witnessed her actions she is left wondering what will become of them.  Will he be angry enough to send her away? Will he punish her? Is she going to lose him when she finally knows how much she loves him?

I fell in love with this series from the very beginning.  Elizabeth Lennox has a wonderful writing style that will draw you in and help you fall in love with her characters.   I have been reading Elizabeth Lennox for some time now and I have seen her style develop more debt as she writes more stories.  There is always a happy ending for us to enjoy.  One aspect of Ms. Lennox’s books that I do appreciate is her covers. The cover styles are stunning, sensual and stylish.  I for one am drawn first to a book cover and then I read the description so I do appreciate the covers greatly.

We don’t have long to wait for the next series to captivate as the Samara Royal Family.  The new series will have the location of Alaska and of course sexy alpha males and is called the Bold Alaskan Men Series.  The first book is scheduled for release on July 15, 2016 and is titled, The Billionaire’s Beautiful Mistake.  I have already reserved my copy and if you would also like to here is the link:  http://amzn.to/1tAWW0D.

The American Heir: The Billionaire Duke#4 by Gina Robinson Coming June 22, 2016

americanheirimage

Amazon Link:   http://amzn.to/1Umhe3C

It is almost here, the exciting last installment of the Billionaire Duke, The American Heir.  With surprising twists and unveiled secrets we will find out if Riggins and Haley will have their happy ending.

At the end of book 3, Rose, that manipulative British wench, has spilled the news of Haley’s pregnancy to the press and Riggins who has just come to the realization that he loves Haley sees the broadcast only to believe Haley meant to trap him.  After throwing a tantrum to outshine any little British Lord or Lady, Riggins confronts Haley with his anger.  He wasn’t expecting to Haley direct her own anger back at him.

If you remember that nasty little business of the DNA tests that were done on Haley and Rose and a hint of an issue with the results, well let’s just say Haley has found out what that issue was and believes Riggins knew all along.  While remaining in England, Haley has done her own research and has found that she is in fact the great-granddaughter of the Dead Duke and is actually the rightful American Heir.  She has also come to realize she is more like the Dead Duke than she thought possible and that it isn’t Riggins who is to solve the clues he left but that they were left for her.

The clues Haley has become fascinated with are all coming together.  The Dead Duke never did anything without a reason and he did have a heart he used to help those he cared for.  As she becomes part of the community, she learns many secrets which push her to the discovery that will help identify her sister’s twin and hopefully lead to her cure.  Haley also discovers that there is someone following her and believes that the tower is haunted, but no one believes her.

As twists turn what they thought was known into something new and secrets are being revealed, Haley and Riggins have only each other they can trust if they can set aside their suspicions and admit they have actually done what the Dead Duke wanted…fallen in love with each other.  When proof of Haley’s stalker becomes real and Riggins runs in to protect Haley and their unborn child, it may be Riggins who needs saved when his past makes a very connection to his present. When an accident occurs, Riggins must do everything to save Haley.  In the end, will the Dead Duke win?

In this serial, we had only four books which compared to the Switched at Marriage (Justin and Kayla) series in which there were 7.  I truly enjoyed that series but it was long.  I thought having the story neatly tied up within 4 books was great!  I can’t get enough of Gina Robinson’s sexy serial romances.  I also ( as mentioned to the author and on a previous blog) think it would be fantastic to have a story based on the Dead Duke’s life. If you haven’t tried one of Gina Robinson’s serials you are missing out.  I recommend beginning with the Switched at Marriage serial in which you meet her characters through Justin and Kayla’s romance.  It is where you will meet Riggins and Lazar who is the next in line for his story.

Whisper of Magic by Patricia Rice

whisperofmagicimage.jpg

Amazon Link:  http://amzn.to/25FBBRb

The newest book in the Malcolm-Ives family saga reached the shelves just this week, with the release of Whisper of Magic.  In the previous book, Magic in the Stars, we were introduced to Erran Ives, the barrister of the family.  It was during our introduction that Erran’s behavior was becoming a bit withdrawn but the reasons behind those actions were not explained until now.

Erran Ives, a barrister by trade, was trying to protect his client, a family that had been wrongfully evicted from their home.  During the impressive court room arguments, Erran is bewildered by everyone’s actions when he lets loose his own forceful emotions through his booming voice.  When all is returned to normal, the ruination of his career and his own defeated self-esteem is his shadow.  With his brother, the Marquis of Ashford, in need of the family’s townhouse, Erran must ask the tenants to relocate but is having difficulty in connecting with the Baron or his representative.

Celeste Malcolm Rochester has lost her father and now as the eldest child of Baron Rochester, a distant relative of the Ives-Malcolm’s through the lineage of Sir Trevelyan Rochester and Lady Lucinda Malcolm.  For those of you familiar with the previous Ives-Malcolm series, Lady Lucinda Malcolm had a gift of prophetic visions within her paintings and had at one time painted a questionable portrait of Sir Trevelyan.  Celeste, her siblings and a few loyal friends and servants are struggling to do what they can to combat their father’s cousin who is trying to illegally take over his estate.

Erran, Lady Azenor, and several other Ives family members join forces to aid their Rochester family in the race to prove Lord Lansdowne’s claim to the estate is fraudulent.  As Lord Erran and Lady Celeste band together, they find themselves facing magic, fertility ceremonies and a common magical gift they share.

It is wonderful to read these newest Ives-Malcolm relatives.  I also enjoy how the author, Patricia Rice does make references to the past Ives-Malcolm pairings as the ancestors of the current characters. Ms. Rice also employs her characters and interweaves them so that you are treated to reading of the characters from previous books, such as Lady Azenor.    I find this always enjoyable and believe it pulls the story together.  Lady Azenor played a large role in this story and having her stand out against the stoic Ives men is richly entertaining with her magical oddities and sense of style. There is always fun, strange magic, a budding romance and of course the bad guys to defeat.  Patricia Rice is an author that will intrigue, captivate and in the end keep you breathlessly anticipating the next story.  You just can’t get enough of her magical romances.

Killian: A West Bend Saints Romance by Sabrina Paige

killianimage

Amazon Link:      http://amzn.to/1X5FcXC

If a hot sexy man accidental spills coffee on you and instead of apologizing thanks you for the wet t-shirt or tells you are his with the word “Mine” and then tells you (doesn’t ask) exactly what he is going to do to you, what would you do?  Would you come back with some sassy comments while your legs are shaking with the images his plans created?  Would you call him a caveman, Neanderthal or a diamond in the rough?

Lily Grant is a single Mom who left Chicago after her dirty police officer husband is killed.  While visiting her parents in Colorado, Lily found a bakery for sale in West Bend, a small country town.  Lily has turned to baking as a way to relax and purchases the bakery to make a new life for her and her daughter.  Lily isn’t one to make friends easy, as her focus in on her business and her daughter, so having a relationship with anyone isn’t likely to happen.  She is also sassy and not one to put up with a lot.

Killian is the oldest of the remaining Saint brothers.  Lily calls Killian a caveman and a Neanderthal. The man is blunt with no filter and certainly doesn’t care what anyone thinks of his actions or his words. He says what he means and does exactly as he wants.  Killian hasn’t had an easy life, an abusive father and then running away from home when he was 18 and with the town of West Bend always treating the Saint boys as if they were nothing, coming home isn’t easy.  He was happy living a solitary life in the mountains until he literally bumps into Lily. Killian has never used the word “mine” with any woman but that is the only word to use with her…Lily.  Now Killian is messing with two of his rules…no sticking with one woman and no children.

Killian will make you laugh with his bluntness.  I don’t want to spoil it for you, but the scene in Lily’s bakery, Cupcakes and Cappuccinos, and the “rules” Killian enforces will have you laughing!  Customer service is not his forte!  His rough around the edges personality will soon have you falling in love with him!  When Lily needs help, Killian jumps in to help her showing that under that bluntness there really is a great guy.

Sabrina Page writes with humor and caveman sex appeal!  In this book, the final brother of the West Bend Saints Romances, you are also treated with the three previous books in the back along with new epilogues.  I enjoyed reading Killian, but found the other brothers stories wonderful and it was nice that I don’t have to purchase their individual books now. Killian’s story is mostly about his trying to out run the pain the town’s narrow minds caused him and his chasing Lily whom he loves and wants.

Truly a fun book to read!  I love the confident Killian and his caveman personality.  Lily isn’t so bad herself in how she gives back just as much as she gets from Killian. She definitely keeps Killian in line and at times a little off balance.

The Magnolia Duchess by Beth White

magnoliaduchessimage.jpg

Amazon Link:  http://amzn.to/1TO1vOI

Beth White writes a story that is intriguing in its complexity.  She writes of a family in Florida that has no ties to England as the Revolutionary War moves forward. This is a family of brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles that will hold onto that familial bond through generations and separation.

Fiona lives in Florida with her Aunt, Uncle, cousin and brothers after her parent’s death.  She is close to her cousin Maddy who is a widow thanks to the war and to her very distant cousin Sehoy. Upon hearing the devastating news that her twin brother, has been taken as prisoner by the British Fiona is shocked to discover a British soldier washed upon the shore.  What is more shocking is this soldier is a childhood friend and secret love of hers.  What to do with a British soldier, friend or not, is a dilemma as ill feelings toward the British escalate.

Charlie has no memory of why is there and what he may have been sent to do.  Is he a British soldier with ties of allegiance or is he actually a spy. As the intrigue builds and the romances for three of the women in the family blossom where will they end up?

The war comes to their door with suspicions rising of happenings on each side, but this family will hold strong to their faith in God and in one another. Men and women will fight together to protect their home and each other.

The war and its intrigue fought in Florida with a family of mixed heritage…French, Creek, Spanish and African is a very interesting story.  Throw in spies, corrupt leaders, pirates and plain American spunk and your attention is caught. You will no doubt enjoy this book and the strong characters who will hold on to God and will do what they believe to be right when confronted with war.  The characters are written with depth to their personalities which add to the enjoyment of this book.  This is the third book in the Gulf Coast Chronicles.
